Leadership Team Tune Up

Length: 2 days Cost: $9995 (travel included)

Deliverable: A customized Team Charter

Many team members operate under the false assumption that, because everyone involved is a manager, working together should be a straightforward proposition. Seasoned leaders know otherwise. Effective collaboration amongst diverse personalities with diverse styles, areas of expertise and responsibilities doesn’t happen by itself: it requires attention, care and dedicated time spent developing agreements for collaboration.

The Leadership Team Tune Up accomplishes the above by focusing on a Team Charter that contains all the basic agreements a team needs to function effectively, from a clear job description for the team to specific meetings processes that support important leadership work. This training covers the first four of the Five Characteristics of High Performing Teams: Clear Purpose; Common Goals; Strong Processes; Clear Roles & Responsibilities.

Outcomes:

  • Clear, mutually agreed-on standards for team success

  • Efficient and effective meetings that address both tactics and strategy

  • Clear understanding of how final decisions will be made and by whom

  • Greater clarity about the role of Leadership Team member (in addition to one’s positional responsibilities)

Building Team Collaboration & Trust

Length: 2 days Cost: $9995 (travel included)

When a leadership team has a working Charter and effective team meetings, tensions and conflict diminish. But to become a truly high-performing team – something only a small fraction of work teams ever achieve – requires uncommon levels of interpersonal trust and understanding.

Building Team Collaboration and Trust focuses on the fifth characteristic of High Performing Teams: Strong Relationships, which in the professional setting means relationships based on mutual trust and respect. With those in place, conflicts can be acknowledged and positively resolved and higher levels of collaboration become possible. Developing trust, however, only happens with insight into another person: understanding what they value, what motivates and de-motivates them, and why. Using leadership models tested over decades, we help already effective teams deepen and refine their communication and move to the next level of collaborative performance.

Outcomes:

  • Increased interpersonal understanding

  • More honest dialogue

  • Ability to productively resolve conflicts

  • Improved problem solving and decision making

  • Sustained improvements in team performance

LEGACY OFFERINGS

New Leader Transition Session

Length: 2 days Cost: $9995 (travel included)

When a new leader joins a team, it typically takes several months for team members to understand the new leader’s style and expectations; and for the new leader to learn the equivalent styles and expectations of their new team members. It can also take significant time for the leader to become aware of the unit’s internal challenges and external opportunities and threats. The larger and more complex the unit, the longer this process can take.

The goal of a New Leader Transition Session is to accelerate that learning process by dedicating time up-front to discussing personal leadership styles, mutual expectations, and perceptions of the needs of the unit. The purpose of this exchange of information is to help the team collaborate effectively as soon as possible. The meeting itself is a time for learning, sharing, reflection, and setting the tone for how the team will be successful in the future. Participants invariably say they learn a lot about long-time colleagues as well as their new boss.

Customized Team Assessment

Length: 1 hour initial calls with each team member; a one hour post-assessment debrief with the team leader; a two hour debrief with the entire team.

Cost: $6000 (teams of up to 8 members); $7250 (teams of up to 10 members); $9000 (teams of up to 12 members)

Deliverable: A written assessment of team strengths, challenges, and specific recommended next steps for team development.

Our Customized Team Assessment process has been refined over decades of work with leadership teams across the public, private and non-profit sectors. During hour long initial interviews, we ask the same questions of each team member. We track the responses we get, then look across responses for common patterns without ascribing comments to specific individuals. From there we create a written Team Assessment that is typically 7-10 pages long.

The first part of the Assessment is a clear, impartial and anonymous documentation of perceived strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for the team. The second part is our analysis and insight into what we heard, assessing the dynamics and providing detailed recommendations for next steps – all informed by comparison to the dozens of leadership teams we’ve worked with previously. The final result is an honest, neutral, third-party assessment that can create a common understanding of where the team is now and what steps it should take to move to new levels of performance. We review the document first with the team leader to make sure its contents are accurate, then debrief it with the entire team. Please contact us for an anonymous sample of the final product.

Outcomes:

  • Each team member having their perspective heard and considered

  • An objective sense of where the team is relative to comparable teams and in its stage of development

  • Validation of team strengths and assets

  • Neutral framing of challenges

  • Clear recommendations for moving forward
